This membership is cancellable after 3 months. You are able to "freeze" your account after 1 month if required (for instance, if you are leaving for a trip and won't be climbing for a month or more). Freezing your account is only $8/month and ensures you don't have to pay the $20 activation fee for restarting your membership.
