Join us to learn the fundamentals of Sport Lead Climbing and begin a new chapter in your climbing journey! In this class you’ll learn rope management, belaying a lead climber, how to take and catch a lead fall, and about the equipment particular to Lead Climbing. This clinic is designed as an indoor introduction to Lead Climbing and is structured to teach you everything you need to pass the Peak Lead Test. This class is great for any climber who has mastered top-rope belaying and is ready to unlock the rest of the gym by lead climbing!
Cost: $60 for members | $90 for guests
Number of Participants: 4
Additional Notes: Lead climbing is inherently more dangerous than top rope. Participants should be mentally and physically prepared to take on that risk.
Top Rope Belay certification at Peak is required for this class.
This class is for ages 16 and up. If you are between the ages of 13-15 and wish to take this class please email instruction@peakexperiences.com BEFORE signing up. Thank You!
Session 1: In this session, climbers will learn and practice the techniques and skills needed to lead belay and climb. (3 Hours)
Session 2: Climbers will get additional instructor-backed practice lead belaying and climbing and time to review any concepts learned in the first session. (2 Hours)
Participants will need a harness, climbing shoes and a belay device for the class. It is recommended to take the class using the belay device you plan to mainly use to lead belay. If participants need any of this equipment, we have harnesses, shoes, and ATCs/Gri Gris for rent at the front desk.
Participants are welcome to use their own dynamic climbing rope if they have one. If not, no worries! Peak will provide dynamic climbing ropes for the class.
Participants may take the Lead Test starting the following day after taking the class. We require waiting at least one day after receiving instruction before testing as this allows time to ensure that all the information from the class was retained.
No appointment is necessary for testing. Just let the front desk staff know upon arriving that you would like to take the Lead Test.
Participants may independently take the Lead Climb Only or Lead Belay Only Tests if they choose. Testing lead belayers will need someone to climb for their test. Climbers need to be already certified to lead climb or simultaneously testing.

There are some climbing skills exclusive to outdoor climbing, and we're here to teach you them in the controlled environment of our gym! Learn anchor building, route cleaning, rope management, outdoor etiquette and other skills needed to climb in the great outdoors! This class is taught in a 2-session course.
Cost: $95 for members | $140 for guests
Max Number of Participants: 4
Additional Notes: While this is a Gym to Crag class, as of now this class will be taught indoors at a Peak Experiences location.
Prerequisites: 16+ years of age. Lead Climb and Belay Certified at Peak Experiences or equivalent knowledge. Comfortable climbing grade 5.7.
This is an introduction to outdoor climbing and while it provides a solid foundation of knowledge, it cannot cover every scenario possible. Rock climbing is an inherently dangerous sport and there are more uncontrollable risks outdoors. Please exercise caution, but remember to have fun!
Please bring your harness, belay device, shoes, and any personal climbing gear you would like to incorporate into the class. All outdoor specific gear will be provided for participants.
This class will teach participants how to build anchors on a two bolt system and different variations one might find climbing in different areas.
Cleaning anchors teaches participants how to retrieve their gear from the wall using best practices. Participants will learn how to change over to lowering through a sport anchor and about other lowering options.
Interest in climbing has exploded over the years and as climbing gyms are now the leading entry way into the sport, it is important that we do our part to teach best practices to protect access, promote ecological and environmental sustainability, and respect the cultural significance of the natural areas where we recreate.
This section of the class teaches basic LNT practices, encourages climbers to be respectful of other individuals' experience, and to learn the acceptable practices and local ordinances at each and every crag they visit.
