Learn to inspect, install, evaluate, test, and retrieve traditional climbing gear such as wired chocks, spring loaded camming devices and more. Analyze the rock for strength, compatibility with different pieces of gear, and security of gear placements. Connect multiple pieces to form an anchor. This class is an essential foundation for climbers to build off of in Top Rope Anchors 202 (incorporate traditional gear into your top rope anchors when trees or bolts are not available), Trad 202 (follow a leader on traditional routes), and Trad 303 (lead traditional routes yourself, placing protection as you go).

We encourage participants to bring their own gear if they have it. All other necessary equipment will be provided.

• Nut cleaning tool for protection removal
• Wired chocks, aka "nuts," "stoppers," etc.
• Spring loaded camming devices aka "cams"
• Carabiners to store gear and for general use
• Cord, slings and rope for anchor building
