Join us for a 45 minute class once a week. Let us introduce your child to climbing! If your little one is ready to take on new heights, we are ready to help them scale the walls. This class will allow children to climb at their highest levels and grow as competitive climbers. Climbing is quickly becoming a mainstream sport, recognized by the United States and International Olympic Committees. Your child will also learn and develop skills in lead climbing and bouldering and become a more advanced well-rounded climber. Team members compete through USA Climbing.

Is your child looking beyond their Youth Programs class and onto bigger and harder projects? Are they self-motivated and looking for more structure and challenge out of their climbing? Our teams could be great for your child!

Competitive Youth Teams:

• Development Team - 1-2x/week
  An excellent bridge program between Senders classes and Pre-Team, Dev Team will equip your climber with the skills they need to reach the level necessary for USA Climbing competitions.

• Pre-Team - 2x/week
  The next step up in Rock Spot Teams, where kids are even more independent and expectations are higher. Members are invited to begin competing in USA Climbing events.

• Team Rock Spot - 3x/week
  Our most rigorous team consists of structure, drills, and a deep look into what it means to compete and be a high-level athlete. Team Rock Spot frequently places in Regional & Divisional Championships, and qualify in National Championships. Competing in USA Climbing events is required, and involvement is much stronger from parents as well.

Ages: Minimum 13 years old

This is an advanced program for scouts looking to complete the requirements for the Scouts BSA Climbing Merit Badge. Rock Spot requires all participants to be turning 13 by the end of the calendar year to participate in the program. This program includes all gear and instruction and takes a minimum of four hours to complete.

Pricing Information:
A deposit is due at the time of booking. Portions of the deposit may be nonrefundable.

• $100 for groups under 50 participants. Your deposit will be used to hold your date and time. This deposit may be applied to your group payment on the day of the event
• Merit Badge - $70/participant (4hr program)
• The final payment for your event will be collected the day of your event.

Add a Scout Fun Climb
Scouts who are not interested in or too young to complete the Merit Badge program can participate in our "Scout Fun Climb" alongside the Merit Badge program. We will provide staff to belay your Fun Climb climbers for 1.5 hours. If you are interested in splitting your group between a Merit Badge and Fun Climb please contact our Program Manager.

Add an Overnight
You can turn your visit to the gym into an overnight! Add an overnight to your event for an additional fee of $325/group.

Group Size:
Our Merit Badge program can accommodate 3-12 participants. If you plan on having more than 25 participants across both the Merit Badge and Fun Climb, please contact our Program Manager further in advance to make sure we can accommodate your group. Join us for a fun introduction to the climbing gym! During this 50 minute program sections of the facility will be closed to the general public so your toddlers can run around and enjoy the climbing-related activities. Rock Spot staff will be available for questions. All toddler supervision will be done by the accompanying adults.

Parents/guardians do not need to register as a paid participant, but will be expected to help their toddlers through activities and be within arms reach of their toddlers at all times.

This program is staffed at a low participant to staff ratio and all staff are trained to give your climbers the best experience possible. Climbers must be at least 6 years old to participate in Indoor Adventures.

When is it offered?

Our activity blocks rotate between the following activities: climbing, climbing games, team building games, outdoor games, and crafts. Below are some examples and explanations of activities that can be found in each block.

Get outside and climb on some real rock this summer!

Jump in the van and join the adventure as we explore a wide variety of local climbing areas. Our Outdoor Adventurers will travel to a new climbing destination each day of the week. Every new area will provide different climbs and activities to explore together.

Groups are made of 4-12 participants, guided by two highly-trained Rock Spot staff members who provide personal climbing instruction each day.

Some prior climbing experience is recommended. All climbing equipment is provided. This program runs best when climbers participate for the full week. Climbers must be at least 10 years old to participate in Outdoor Adventures.

Ready to upgrade your climbing and learn to use momentum?

In this 90-minute clinic, we’ll dive into the difference between static and dynamic movement, and why controlled “pretty” climbing isn’t always the answer. You’ll get hands-on practice with movement drills designed to help you move with more intention and efficiency on the wall, everything from utilizing hip drive to breaking down pogo technique. All you need are shoes!

Galina Parfenov, climbing coach and sponsored athlete, will be running this clinic to introduce the concept, utilization, and importance of dynamic vs static movement in climbing and the importance of knowing the difference in the two stiles while utilizing them when climbing.

Join us at Rock Spot Lincoln on June 26th for our Community Top Rope Competition!

This is your chance to show the community you're the best top rope climber north of Providence. We'll be holding a top rope competition that will be fun for new and experienced climbers. We'll have climbs with a wide variety of styles and grades specially set for the competition. So come have fun, try some cool climbs, and enjoy Rock Spot Lincoln's awesome community and setting. Come Tie-Dye With Us!

Tie-dye a white cotton shirt to send with or just to wear day to day. We recommend picking up one of our new, white, cotton logo shirts which work really well with the dyes and techniques we’ll be using at this event- or bring your own!

You can either bring a white, 100% cotton shirt of your choice, or you can purchase one of our new shirts in the shop. Remember, members save 10% off all retail in the shop over $5, including these new shirts! Shirts will be sold at an event discount for $5 and we will provide the materials and basic instruction. Shirts will not be provided.

Your purchase covers both the tie-dye event and a day pass for climbing after you have finished making your shirt!

While our staff will provide instruction on basic tie-dye techniques, it’s always best to come in with a plan of what you’d like to make. We will provide rubber bands, the dyes listed below set up at separate stations, along with a space to prep your cotton shirt. Please note that if your technique requires any resources beyond the rubber bands we will provide, you will need to bring whatever supplies you require.

Your shirt must be 100% cotton for maximum adherence to the dye.

Finally, it takes time for dyes to fully adhere to the cotton fibers in your shirt, so while we will provide bags for you to take your project home. It will be up to you to find a safe place to allow your shirt to soak. 24 hours should be sufficient, but the longer you allow the shirt to sit with the dye, the better the dyes will stick to the fabric; allowing for a brighter, finished product that will last longer after multiple washes.

We will provide instructions to wash your shirt when you feel it’s ready so you can enjoy it around town or at the crag!

What separates the best climbers from the rest? Grip strength. What’s the single most important thing to train correctly? Also grip strength. If you want stronger fingers but are not sure where to start, this clinic is for you. This 90-minute clinic will break down the why, how, and when of hangboarding so you can minimize the risk of injury and train your grip with confidence.

We’ll cover grip types, loading, and the most common hangboard protocols— from max hangs for strength to density hangs for recovery. We’ll also compare hangboards and Tension Blocks, then wrap up with how to program hangboarding into your climbing routine.

Exclusively for Malden resident family youth in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Every Sunday starting April 26, 2026.

In this indoor program, new climbers will have the opportunity to try the sport of climbing on our boulder walls and learn the fundamentals of the sport before testing their skills on real rock at Waitt's Mount just a mile down the road!

This is an indoor program that will run for 8 weeks every Sunday starting April 26. The final day of the class will be outdoors on Sunday, June 14 at Waitt's Mount with a rain date of Saturday, June 20.

On this final day of the class, we will set up top rope climbs on the rocky cliffs suitable to the participant's skill level and we will continue to provide instruction to ensure all participants have a good time. Families will also be welcome to watch the class, along with this fun event! The best part is this program is only $20 for participants!

This program was made possible in partnership with the Malden Recreation Department, The Great Malden Outdoors Initiative from First Seed Sown and the Massachusetts Office of Outdoor Recreation (MOOR) Grant! Up ENDing Parkinson's is a nonprofit dedicated to helping people with Parkinson's disease improve their quality of life through adaptive rock climbing and movement-based classes. Since 2012, Up ENDing Parkinson's has developed a program that is not only fun and empowering, but also targets many of the syptoms of Parkinson's - like balance, coordination, muscle stiffness, and anxiety.

In this 3-week course we will work on refining and advancing your technique on the wall. If you’re a new or beginner climber who wants guidance getting started, or a climber who is looking to cross a basic technique plateau, this class is perfect for you. Lead climbing uses more advanced climbing and belay techniques. It begins with the ropes disconnected from all anchors. The lead climber is responsible for clipping the rope into anchors set along the wall while the lead belayer gives the rope slack to accommodate the proper anchoring and manages the rope during climber falls or lowering.

The lead climbing lesson takes two, 2 hour sessions. The first session for all participants is Lead Class 101. We recommend a minimum of 6 months climbing experience plus the ability to climb 5.9 very comfortably before signing up for this course.

Participants must have a partner to take this class. Please make sure to register your partner or to bring a partner with you on the day of the class who has already been lead certified at Rock Spot.

The cost of this class covers both Lead Climbing 101 and Lead Climbing 102.

Lead climbing uses more advanced climbing and belay techniques. It begins with the ropes disconnected from all anchors. The lead climber is responsible for clipping the rope into anchors set along the wall while the lead belayer gives the rope slack to accommodate the proper anchoring and manages the rope during climber falls or lowering.

The lead climbing lesson takes two, 2 hour sessions. The first session for all participants is Lead Class 101. We recommend a minimum of 6 months climbing experience plus the ability to climb 5.9 very comfortably before signing up for this course.

The lead climber is responsible for clipping the rope into anchors set along the wall while the lead belayer gives the rope slack to accommodate the proper anchoring and manages the rope during climber falls or lowering.

The lead climbing lesson takes two, 2 hour sessions. The first session for all participants is Lead Class 101. We recommend a minimum of 6 months climbing experience plus the ability to climb 5.9 very comfortably before signing up for this course.

Participants must have a partner to take this class. Please make sure to register your partner or to bring a partner with you on the day of the class who has already been lead certified at Rock Spot.

The cost of this class covers both Lead Climbing 101 and Lead Climbing 102.

If you’re new to climbing, this one-hour program is for you. Take your time and learn the foundations of climbing technique with a dedicated instructor.

This class covers the following:

• An Overview of the Sport of Climbing: Learn more about the sport and where your climbing journey can take you
• Climbing Terms and Foundational Techniques: This is where we go over everything you need to know to start climbing on the right foot
• Observed Climbing with a Dedicated Instructor: By climbing with someone observing your technique, you can test out some of the new techniques you've learned while asking questions to clarify how to properly apply your new skills.

Climbers of all skill levels and experiences are invited to attend our Injury Prevention and Recovery Course. Climbing can put a lot of stress on the body. In this course, we will focus on how to prevent common climbing injuries, like chronic overuse injuries and acute traumatic injuries. Each session will include an informative talk about the human body and guidance on proper strengthening exercises.

Join us for an all-abilities yoga class geared towards improving your climbing and overall strength!

Our yoga instructor will lead you through an approachable introduction to strength + power focused yoga exercises designed to improve your overall strength to get you moving with more total body power up the climbing wall!

Up ENDing Parkinson's is a nonprofit dedicated to helping people with Parkinson's disease improve their quality of life through adaptive rock climbing and movement-based classes. Since 2012, Up ENDing Parkinson's has developed a program that is not only fun and empowering, but also targets many of the syptoms of Parkinson's - like balance, coordination, muscle stiffness, and anxiety.

This program is supported by a grantfrom the American ParkinsonDisease Association Rhode Island Chapter!

Sport Climbing 201 covers the essential information required to lead and top rope bolted routes outdoors. This class takes place indoors with simulated anchors and situations to facilitate hands-on practice with expert instruction.

All participants must pass a Rock Spot lead climbing and belaying test at least 24 hours beforehand or be previously certified.

Topics covered include:

• Crag ethics and etiquette
• Outdoor hazards and risk mitigation
• Gear features, inspection and maintenance
• Installing and removing quickdraws
• Use of personal tethers
• Installing and removing anchors in a variety of situations
• Transitioning to lower from a variety of bolted anchor types
• Following on top rope with directionals for overhanging or traversing routes

The Sport Climbing 202 expansion brings the class outdoors to rehearse the same skills at a local sport climbing area, plus a few additional techniques and scenarios.

Ages: Minimum 14 years old

Sport Climbing 202 reviews the 201 class material in an outdoor environment. After hands-on practice, a few additional topics will be introduced to help get you out of tricky situations that you may encounter.

Participants will be "mock leading" with a top rope backup while they practice. Expect to be tested on multiple anchor situations at the top of the climbing route under the direct supervision of the instructor.

Participants will meet at the designated parking area 15 minutes before the tour starts time. The walking tour will wrap up after 1 or 2 hours, followed by a brief climbing session afterwards. Climbing ends 3 hours after the start of the tour.

No outdoor climbing experience needed, only climbing shoes (rental shoes included by request). Crash pads will be provided for use during the tour.

This outing is primarily intended as an informational session. It is designed for climbers who are looking for an introduction to bouldering outdoors, or for boulderers who are looking to expand their knowledge of the area. If you want to spend the entire time climbing on boulders specifically selected for you, work on specific climbing techniques, or find options that better fit your schedule, consider booking a Private Bouldering Session.

If you've ever wanted to give outdoor climbing a try, then this event is for you!

Rock Spot staff will provide all the necessary equipment and take care of anchoring the rope at the top of Waitt's Mount in Malden, MA. The only thing you need to focus on is climbing and being outdoors! Recommended for all ages and abilities regardless of climbing experience.

These events are limited to 20 climbers for each event to ensure enough climbing for all participants, along with proper staffing and climbing gear. If you have registered for the event and cannot make the event, please cancel your booking at your earliest convenience to allow others on the waiting list to sign up.

The participant list is locked 48 hours before the event so please commit to attending if you are registered by that time.

Families are only allowed to book for one event to ensure as many Malden families as possible have an opportunity to try the sport.

Establish or expand your outdoor climbing opportunities by learning to set up top rope anchors that utilize clifftop trees and boulders. Your instructor will discuss, demonstrate, and supervise while you gain hands on experience with basic anchor principals.

Topics include gear selection, inspection, route finding, top site safety, basic knots, anchor construction and anchor evaluation. Following this lesson, participants should then be able to build their own top rope anchors at many of our local climbing areas using basic techniques.
For comprehensive top rope anchor building skills, supplement with our other lessons including Self Rescue 101, Sport Climbing 201, Traditional Protection 101, Rappel 101, Top Rope Anchors 202, and Self Rescue 302.

Pre-Team is a great introduction to the world of competitive climbing. Students will have the opportunity to compete in regional competitions as they work to make the transition to Team Rock Spot.

This class is by invite only, we are looking for climbers who are self-motivated and are driven to improve their climbing. In pre-team climbers will learn how to make the sport their own, they will begin to take control of their training and conditioning as they work towards our competitive team.

Team Rock Spot is the last step for our Competitive Youth Teams.

This class will allow children to climb at their highest levels and grow as competitive climbers. Climbing is quickly becoming a mainstream sport, recognized by the United States and International Olympic Committees. Your child will also learn and develop skills in lead climbing and bouldering and become a more advanced well-rounded climber. Team members compete through USA Climbing.

Competitive Youth Teams:

• Development Team - 1-2x/week
  An excellent bridge program between Senders classes and Pre-Team, Dev Team will equip your climber with the skills they need to reach the level necessary for USA Climbing competitions.

• Pre-Team - 2x/week
  The next step up in Rock Spot Teams, where kids are even more independent and expectations are higher. Members are invited to begin competing in USA Climbing events.

• Team Rock Spot - 3x/week
  Our most rigorous team consists of structure, drills, and a deep look into what it means to compete and be a high-level athlete. Team Rock Spot frequently places in Regional & Divisional Championships, and qualify in National Championships. Competing in USA Climbing events is required, and involvement is much stronger from parents as well.

Ages: Minimum 13 years old

This is an advanced program for scouts looking to complete the requirements for the Scouts BSA Climbing Merit Badge. Rock Spot requires all participants to be turning 13 by the end of the calendar year to participate in the program. This program includes all gear and instruction and takes a minimum of four hours to complete.

Pricing Information:
A deposit is due at the time of booking. Portions of the deposit may be nonrefundable.

• $100 for groups under 50 participants. Your deposit will be used to hold your date and time. This deposit may be applied to your group payment on the day of the event
• Merit Badge - $70/participant (4hr program)
• The final payment for your event will be collected the day of your event.

Add a Scout Fun Climb
Scouts who are not interested in or too young to complete the Merit Badge program can participate in our "Scout Fun Climb" alongside the Merit Badge program. Add an Overnight
You can turn your visit to the gym into an overnight! Add an overnight to your event for an additional fee of $325/group.

Join us for a fun introduction to the climbing gym! During this 50 minute program sections of the facility will be closed to the general public so your toddlers can run around and enjoy the climbing-related activities. Rock Spot staff will be available for questions. All toddler supervision will be done by the accompanying adults.

Parents/guardians do not need to register as a paid participant, but will be expected to help their toddlers through activities and be within arms reach of their toddlers at all times.

Our activity blocks rotate between the following activities: climbing, climbing games, team building games, outdoor games, and crafts. Below are some examples and explanations of activities that can be found in each block.

This is your chance to show the community you're the best top rope climber north of Providence. We'll be holding a top rope competition that will be fun for new and experienced climbers. Come Tie-Dye With Us!

Tie-dye a white cotton shirt to send with or just to wear day to day. We recommend picking up one of our new, white, cotton logo shirts which work really well with the dyes and techniques we’ll be using at this event- or bring your own!

You can either bring a white, 100% cotton shirt of your choice, or you can purchase one of our new shirts in the shop. Remember, members save 10% off all retail in the shop over $5, including these new shirts! Shirts will be sold at an event discount for $5 and we will provide the materials and basic instruction. Shirts will not be provided.

Your purchase covers both the tie-dye event and a day pass for climbing after you have finished making your shirt!

While our staff will provide instruction on basic tie-dye techniques, it’s always best to come in with a plan of what you’d like to make. We will provide rubber bands, the dyes listed below set up at separate stations, along with a space to prep your cotton shirt. Please note that if your technique requires any resources beyond the rubber bands we will provide, you will need to bring whatever supplies you require.

Your shirt must be 100% cotton for maximum adherence to the dye.

Finally, it takes time for dyes to fully adhere to the cotton fibers in your shirt, so while we will provide bags for you to take your project home. It will be up to you to find a safe place to allow your shirt to soak. 24 hours should be sufficient, but the longer you allow the shirt to sit with the dye, the better the dyes will stick to the fabric; allowing for a brighter, finished product that will last longer after multiple washes.

We will provide instructions to wash your shirt when you feel it’s ready so you can enjoy it around town or at the crag!

   • Participants and Curran will have a conversation about the core concepts of route setting.
3. Gearing up: 4:30pm - 5pm
   • Participants will come to our hold room, we will discuss the process of picking out holds, and get the tools needed for setting.
4. Collaborative Setting: 5pm - 5:50/6pm
   • Either in pairs or working with Curran, participants will set a boulder problem on our Mezzanine wall.
5. Snack/Conversation About Our Climbs: 5:50/6pm - 6:10pm
   • When finished setting, we will have a quick chat about the climbs everyone has set and if anyone has thoughts about them, or the process, before we start forerunning the problems.
6. Climb & Tweak: 6:10pm - 6:45pm
   • As a group, we will go through each climb, providing feedback and making adjustments as needed to enhance the quality of the boulders.

In this indoor program, new climbers will have the opportunity to try the sport of climbing on our boulder walls and learn the fundamentals of the sport before testing their skills on real rock at Waitt's Mount just a mile down the road!

This is an indoor program that will run for 8 weeks every Sunday starting April 26. The final day of the class will be outdoors on Sunday, June 14 at Waitt's Mount with a rain date of Saturday, June 20.

On this final day of the class, we will set up top rope climbs on the rocky cliffs suitable to the participant's skill level and we will continue to provide instruction to ensure all participants have a good time. Families will also be welcome to watch the class, along with this fun event! The best part is this program is only $20 for participants!

Sport Climbing 201 covers the essential information required to lead and top rope bolted routes outdoors. This class takes place indoors with simulated anchors and situations to facilitate hands-on practice with expert instruction.

All participants must pass a Rock Spot lead climbing and belaying test at least 24 hours beforehand or be previously certified.

Topics covered include:

• Crag ethics and etiquette
• Outdoor hazards and risk mitigation
• Gear features, inspection and maintenance
• Installing and removing quickdraws
• Use of personal tethers
• Installing and removing anchors in a variety of situations

The Sport Climbing 202 expansion brings the class outdoors to rehearse the same skills at a local sport climbing area, plus a few additional techniques and scenarios.

Ages: Minimum 14 years old

Sport Climbing 202 reviews the 201 class material in an outdoor environment. After hands-on practice, a few additional topics will be introduced to help get you out of tricky situations that you may encounter.

Participants will be "mock leading" with a top rope backup while they practice. Expect to be tested on multiple anchor situations at the top of the climbing route under the direct supervision of the instructor.

This outing is primarily intended as an informational session. Rock Spot staff will provide all the necessary equipment and take care of anchoring the rope at the top of Waitt's Mount in Malden, MA. The only thing you need to focus on is climbing and being outdoors! Recommended for all ages and abilities regardless of climbing experience.

These events are limited to 20 climbers for each event to ensure enough climbing for all participants, along with proper staffing and climbing gear. If you have registered for the event and cannot make the event, please cancel your booking at your earliest convenience to allow others on the waiting list to sign up.

The participant list is locked 48 hours before the event so please commit to attending if you are registered by that time.

Learn how to rappel, a skill with many applications. Top rope belaying experience is strongly recommended.

Participants will learn how to descend from a top site anchor using a variety of safety backups.

Book a top rope tour and climb with us at the iconic Rumney Rocks climbing area in New Hampshire. Ropes will be set on multiple routes with staff available to assist. No lead climbing or belay experience is needed. There are only 9 spots for each session so register now before they fill up!

There is a $5 fee to park at the climbing area.

Climbing shoes, harness, and helmet will be provided to those who do not have their own. We recommend that participants are comfortable climbing at a 5.8 difficulty indoors to get the most from this trip.

If staying overnight, lodging is available at the Barndoor Hostel, American Alpine Club Rattlesnake Campground, and other places nearby.

Participants who have completed the Sport Climbing 201 and 202 classes may be able to practice skills during the Rumeny Trip at the instructor's discretion.

Establish or expand your outdoor climbing opportunities by learning to set up top rope anchors that utilize clifftop trees and boulders. Your instructor will discuss, demonstrate, and supervise while you gain hands on experience with basic anchor principals.

Topics include gear selection, inspection, route finding, top site safety, basic knots, anchor construction and anchor evaluation. Following this lesson, participants should then be able to build their own top rope anchors at many of our local climbing areas using basic techniques.
For comprehensive top rope anchor building skills, supplement with our other lessons including Self Rescue 101, Sport Climbing 201, Traditional Protection 101, Rappel 101, Top Rope Anchors 202, and Self Rescue 302.

Learn to inspect, install, evaluate, test, and retrieve traditional climbing gear such as wired chocks, spring loaded camming devices and more. Analyze the rock for strength, compatibility with different pieces of gear, and security of gear placements. Connect multiple pieces to form an anchor. This class is an essential foundation for climbers to build off of in Top Rope Anchors 202 (incorporate traditional gear into your top rope anchors when trees or bolts are not available), Trad 202 (follow a leader on traditional routes), and Trad 303 (lead traditional routes yourself, placing protection as you go).

Ice climbing provides a unique opportunity to experience an epic adventure scaling giant pillars of ice in the mountains for New Hampshire.
